Dear Friends and Readers:
I want to take a minute to welcome you to the brand new www.jameslhaley.com, which is and will remain my commercial window on the world.
The impetus for it has been the imminent publication of The Shores of Tripoli: Lieutenant Putnam and the Barbary Pirates. It is a naval adventure novel—the first of a series—of which I am hugely proud, developed in tandem with some ace editors at G. P. Putnam's Sons, one of our oldest and proudest publishing houses. You may read more about it by clicking on PUTNAM'S NAVY, above.
Also, you will find a revolving carousel of a selection of my previous books, with buttons to click for those which are available and I can autograph for you, and alerts to which ones are coming back as e-books later this year. Click on OTHER BOOKS, above.
In addition, I devote a good deal of time each year to speaking engagements. If that is the reason for your visit, please click on SPEAKER, above. Many writers do not enjoy this aspect of a career, but I do. It allows me to talk (or perhaps, preach) on topics dear to me, such as the importance of historical literacy and education. And it has also allowed me to make charming friends from Hawaii to Vermont. Alerts of where I will be and what I will be doing are on the PRESS page.
Everywhere I travel, I try to partake of the local life, and cuisine. In recent years I have eaten buffalo in Helena, elk in Boise, posole in Phoenix, crab cakes in Baltimore, venison in Vermont, poi in Honolulu, and buffalo wings in Buffalo. Barbecue in Austin? Hell, I live here, ask me where to get barbecue in Austin!
I hope you enjoy your tour through my books. As I look them over I realize they are largely a summation of my life as well. And I am far from done. The last time I looked in my literary "barrel" there were twenty-two more I want to finish before I shed this mortal coil, so I'd better get busy!
